About

The Lone Liberal is keeping a promise made as a young man on November 22, 1963,  grieving over his fallen hero. He vowed to never forget the liberal  principles he and others accepted when the torch was passed to their new generation at John Kennedy’s 1961 inauguration.  He swore it on the memory of his assassinated President, in enduring commitment to things liberal, not opposition to things conservative.

That commitment did not change in the many years since, though he grew intellectually, and watched real liberals migrate out of the Democratic Party as illiberals have risen to power within it.  He remains true to his promise, refusing to follow liberal soulmates into the Republican and Libertarian parties.  He is a reform Democrat, dedicated to restoring true liberal principle and true liberal leadership to the Democratic party… This website is true to the literal meaning of the word, “conservative” — i.e., to resist ill-advised, reckless, or self-serving change — and does not kowtow to ideological winds redefining words such as “liberal” and (ironically) “conservative” in the self-service of each new generation of political interests. Those who would “observe the lessons of history in order not to repeat its mistakes” must avoid reading the labels of bygone days with a dictionary corrupted by the imposed orthodoxy — the “political correctness” — of the local, and transient practicalities of any subsequent period. It is not about keeping up with today’s language; it is about sabotaging the lessons of history by letting the scoundrels of every day change the words of the day before.
